The Racking Project Manager provides effective workflow and front-line supervision racking laborers within the distribution centers ensuring efficient use of labor hours and productivity, while simultaneously following a continuous quality improvement philosophy. Responsible for the coordination of installation, maintenance, movement and tear down of racking material within all wholesale and retail distribution centers. Monitors daily schedules and adjusts staffing levels according to the project work. Applies accountability standards based on key metrics and implements change to continuously improve performance and increase workflow efficiencies. Maintains operational integrity of assigned department, including utilization of space and equipment, and ensures processes are effectively established, followed, monitored and optimized. Provides coaching, mentoring and support in the development of staff, and recognizes individual team success.
Scope? Responsible for the installation, disassembly and movement of racking throughout all distribution centers, wholesale and retail.
Essential Functions:
This section describes the essential responsibilities that this job performs.
Plan and schedule all racking installations, movements and disassembly within all distribution centers, wholesale and retail.
Coordinate facility layouts, movement of product and project projections for completion.
Prepares departmental annual budget based on the forecasting by the Company and direction from leadership.
Coordinate short-term and long-term labor needs based on the required installation, movement and disassembly of racking with direction from Leadership and other Stakeholders within the business.
Achieve optimum performance levels and adequate expense levels of consumables, space, equipment and overhead to meet annual budgetary plan.
Formulate and recommend distribution center policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving the Company's competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
Maintain and analyze key metrics for self and project work within the distribution centers. Improve departmental performance measures through use and interpretation of Continuous Improvement Tools.
Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and waste. Monitor damage and rework and direct the establishment and implementation of distribution center standards.
Directs and coordinate various programs essential to distribution center procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, quality, employee involvement, security, etc.) to racking laborers.
Act as a liaison between department management and subordinate levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, safety, quality, attitudes and results. Ensure awareness of the Company's goals and objectives.
Hire, train, and evaluate staff. Take corrective action as necessary in accordance with Company policy. Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
Participate in safety, retention and recruiting committees and initiatives.
Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and make appropriate recommendations to leadership as necessary.
Work effectively and communicate and relate well with others. Maintain effective and constructive working relationships.
Demonstrate the Company's Core and Growth Values in performance of all job functions.
Job Requirements
Education:
BA/BS in logistics, business or supply chain management, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years' experience in a medium to large sized distribution center environment managing a significant segment of the distribution center.
Licenses or Certifications
Lean/Six Sigma basic certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills
Competency in budgeting, forecasting and planning,
understanding basic knowledge of logistics,
developing/implementing business plans and goals,
working knowledge using continuous improvement tools such as Lean/Six Sigma and other problem solving methods,
excellent listening and verbal communication skills,
working knowledge of basic accounting principles,
effective meeting facilitation skills and negotiation skills,
basic computer/keyboarding skills,
advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite and MS Excel,
knowledge of distribution software and inventory/warehouse management software,
basic math skills, time management skills, problem-solving and analytical ability, and multi-tasking.
